Help Feed George Bush

“Do you wanna help feed George Bush?”
To the inebriated concertgoer, that is what “Do you want to help defeat George Bush?” sounds like.
The tipsy trustafarians replied, “Hellll nah.. I wanna starve the [insert expletive]” and kept walking by.
The Republicans would only hear the words “George Bush” and would give me high-fives. I willingly accepted them.
Occasionally, people would understand what I was saying. We signed up several hundred volunteers.
Drunk people signing up for things on clipboards is not a pretty sight. Filling in the blanks becomes an epic struggle and phone numbers are easily forgotten or written illegibly.
I encountered my fair share of hecklers as well (eg: Flip-Flop, Kerry Sucks, You Look French… i made the last one up). I wasn’t allowed to talk ish back, but I knew I didn’t need to. I had the trump card. These people just paid $50 for a mediocre concert, and all of their money was going to progressive political causes (MoveOn PAC and America Coming Together). My comeback was simply, “I hope you enjoy the show!” and I would whisper to myself, “… and thanks for the paycheck”.
I asked my friend if she would ever pay $50 for a show if it was being put on by a political group for neo-conservative causes. I think the Beatles was the only morally acceptable answer.

I was there, and was probably one of those drunk kids signing up for who knows what! Although I was there to support the cause and wouldn’t mind helping out if I were called.

Just thought it was funny that people were saying the things they did.
