++PHOTOBOOTH++ Grand Reopening
Posted: January 15th, 2005 | Author: themarkpike | Filed under: Stuff |“What achievement are you proudest of from your time at Duke?”
I was asked this question during a recent job interview. I hesitated for a second, and considered talking about the Intramural Sports Champion t-shirt I earned. Instead, I smiled and said, “I am the proud owner of a Photobooth”.
I talked about how I was actually returning to Duke this weekend for the Grand Reopening of an antique photobooth my friend and I bought. I explained the documentary art project and the collective narrative we put together of nearly 500 photos and people’s reactions to their portraits. I talked about inebriated exposures, stoic application photos, comic strips, and the record of 7 people in the booth at one time. I explained the organic art movement keeping the anachronistic machine alive.
The interviewer seemed really excited and the rest of the interview went well, until she informed me that they had actually already offered the position to somebody about a week ago.
Luckily, I still have the photobooth vending business to fall back on….

Be on the lookout for a Duke Magazine article and a kick ass website by Blaise
Also, be on the lookout for contests throughout the year at the Photobooth (submit the best pirate photo of the week, win a pirate DVD, etc.)…
