If You’re Going to San Francisco…

Posted: July 20th, 2005 | Author: themarkpike | Filed under: Stuff |

I just posted on Craigslist:

We’re going to San Francisco, and in addition to the requisite wearing of flowers in our hair, we’re offering to carry your cargo.

We don’t have much room at all, so please don’t ask us if we’ll pull along your vespa, pet labrador, lumber, snowboard, or tired huddled boxes yearning for precious backseat space.

We’ll be driving a VW hatchback (I just learned how to drive stickshift this weekend, go me!), with a departure date from DC on Saturday July 23rd at 8am.

We have odd-shaped space available, and could possibly throw something on the roof. But, what we really have in mind are email offers like:

-”The love of my life lives in Albuquerque. Could you hand-deliver this love letter in person for me and sing ‘My Endless Love’ as my proxy upon delivery? I’ll pay you $10.”

-”Could you bury this treasure for me 20 miles outside of Las Vegas? I’ll pay you $100. Also, here’s $50, I want you to put it down on 27 Red at Harrah’s. Take a digital picture and send it to me. For your troubles, here’s $20.”

-”I don’t trust FedEx, having seen ‘Cast Away’ and whatnot, could you take this precious handblown glass vase to my grandmother in Little Rock? I’ll pay you $45, and Grandma will bake you cookies.”

We’re here to help you out. We’re here to make a little gas money. We’re here to create a scavenger hunt.

(If you don’t have anything you need delivered, but you know a good truck stop diner, or your Grandma will still make us cookies, please let us know.)

Good luck on your journeys. I did not post this to you in time, but my girlfriend and her family live in Vegas, so I would say stop by, but again, I missed your departure date. So I guess what I am saying is, hope your journey was good, and I hope that you got to meet Barry Bonds in San Fransisco. I hear he is a really nice guy, and that he didn’t use steroids to make him nicer.
