Drops in a Bucket
Posted: September 4th, 2005 | Author: themarkpike | Filed under: Stuff |On Fridays, a silver champagne bucket gets passed around the office. You write your name on a dollar somewhere, and if your dollar gets pulled, you win everything in the bucket. The more dollars you put in, the more you increase your chances of winning and the overall prize also gets much larger. Unfortunately for me, writing a thought bubble above Abe Lincoln’s head that says “Mark Rulez! Bring in the Illinoise, bring in da funk!”, does not serve to increase your chances of winning as much as five crisp Washingtons. Sic semper tyrans, c’est la vie.
On this Friday, in the somber wake of Katrina, people decided to match the total in the bucket with a matching contribution to the Red Cross. The email started spreading around the office pretty quickly, and before you knew it, around 46 people had chipped in.
The silver champagne bucket was densely packed. A name was picked, and the winner got $189. In the end, $8,883 was contributed to the Red Cross.
Make Maimonides proud by dropping some change in the metaphorical silver champagne bucket.
