Dear Photobooth Lovers,
I am writing to inform you that the Duke Photobooth is available for sale.
It is a Model 21 (single entry) Refurbished Studio machine. We purchased the booth from Photo-Me USA in 2004. It was reconditioned just for us, and all parts are in working order. It is an adorable anachronistic booth that produces strips of 4 color photos with the help of an internal mechanical spider-armed darkroom. If you love to tinker and play with things with lots of moving parts, go ahead and get rid of your erector sets because this is the perfect toy for you.
After a short but successful appearance in the Duke Student Union, the time has come for this beautiful machine to see more of the world. It was used in an documentary project that resulted in a large archive of photos and a feature piece in Duke’s Alumni Magazine (as well as a shout-out on Boing Boing, one of the biggest Internet sites in the world)! If you haven’t seen the movie clip compiled from the photo archive, you should definitely check it out. The possibilities are endless with this machine.
Neiman-Marcus is offering a photobooth in their holiday catalog this year for $20,000. Well, we’re offering our booth for a fraction of that price. We’re just a couple of recent college grads trying to get back the money we invested for our documentary project so that we can pay rent.

How much?
We hope to make back the $4,000 we initially invested. This is certainly open for negotiation, but it’s a very reasonable price. She’s a beauty.
