Radio, Radio

I bought this old radio at a yard sale down the street for $25 (my 2nd best bargain of the week). Beautiful wood grain, knobs, dials, tubes, amplifiers, wires. It’s a Farnsworth, which just sounds fancy. I’m going to try to figure out how to rewire it so I can plug in my iPod. I think I might just be able to pull it off.

No matter what I do, it’s not going to look nearly as cool as this one.

I’ll try and post up a podcast tomorrow to accompany this awesome new find, and maybe even record some of the crackling static that’s coming out of it. I was hoping it would only play vintage programming. Perhaps I’ll turn it on now and Orson Welles’ War of the Worlds will be playing.

UPDATE!!! PODCAST #3!!!

Click here to download and listen to a weird mix of radio static, Billie Holiday, TV On The Radio (Diplo remix), Thom Yorke’s new solo stuff (”The Eraser”) interspersed with a Nelly Furtado cover of Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy” (pitch-shifted to about 70% so she sounds like a real soulful dude (Jeff Buckley?)).
