For those of you who are clamoring for more videos about the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, you’ll have to be patient. I’ve been focusing on my Criminal Law course this week, and it’s a lot more difficult to make lighthearted jokes about, well, murder and stuff. Though, O.J. and Fox News Corp. has kind of carried the torch on that one this week.
Random thoughts I’ve had since the last posting…
- Is it weird to buy “Family Size” things at the grocery if you’re occupying a bachelor’s pad?
- What am I supposed to put on the Interests section of my resumé? (Right now, I switched it to say: “Collecting Antique Technology, Listening to Hip Hop and Rock Music.”) A friend told me that might be too subversive. I was going to go with the more innocuous “Bowling”, but I imagined that in the inevitable conversation that follows with a prospective employer, I’d sound like I was bragging about my high score. Suggestions?
- Spaghetti with meatballs shouldn’t be served with a meat sauce. Overkill.
- Will prospective employers find my current blog? Or will they go to my old blog (themarkpike.blogspot.com), which has now been taken over by a Spam Blog? More importantly, how long will it take my current blog to overcome the old one in Google rankings? My guess is 6 more months.
- Is The Wire the best show on television? Yes.
- Could I squeeze out a law school paper on the topic of Ghost Riding The Whip? Definitely. It would most likely involve civil suits raised against rappers for negative influence on impressionable youth.

Interests sections are overrated, why should prospective employers care about your interests? The truth is, they don’t its just stupid resume etiquette if you ask me

Very true, Molly.
Unfortunately for somebody like me, it’s the only opportunity I might have on a resumé to let my, umm, uniqueness shine through. The interests section would only be looked at for a conversation starter in an interview. So, instead of them looking at previous employers and having to discuss politics (which could get awkward), I would instead have the opportunity to shine on a topic of my expertise that is both interesting and different than 99% of the other convos they’ll have with prospective employees.
So, interests sections are probably just stupid resumé etiquette if you just put “Traveling” like everybody else. But it could set you apart if you put something like “Photobooths”!
So.. what should I put down?!
